Registration is now open for the Teaching Mathematics with Technology (TMT) course developed by the Commonwealth of Learning (COL). The four-week course is scheduled to run from 6 – 31 May 2024.
Designed as a massive open online course (MOOC), it targets participants from across the globe. This four-week course is designed for teachers of grades 6 to 10 (upper primary and junior secondary) to help them create resources for teaching various concepts in mathematics using the Free and Open-Source Software (FOSS) application GeoGebra.
The course will create opportunities for training and professional development of mathematics educators, teacher educators in this subject domain, as well as teachers of related technical subjects.
This course is co-offered by the Ministry of Education, Sports and Creative Industries in Antigua and Barbuda and the School of Humanities and Education at the University of West Indies – Five Islands Campus with COL support.
A teacher from Eswatini who participated in a previous course offering said, “The course is relevant to current best practices on teaching and learning. A number of things teachers struggle to do can be efficiently accomplished using GeoGebra. The learners should be excited about the dynamic presentation of concepts. Also, I now have reference material, which is now part of my e-library.”
COL’s Education Specialist for Teacher Education, Dr Betty Ogange, said: “Working with in-country partners, we hope to contribute to innovative and evidence-based teacher development and teaching practices using open educational resources.”
