COL has been working with Kaimosi Friends University College (KAFUCO) to implement technology-enabled learning (TEL) with the goal of building teacher capacity in blended learning. A three-day workshop on blended course design, which was organised in February 2020 in Kisumu, Kenya, focused on using Moodle learning management system to design and develop blended courses.
Inaugurating the workshop, which was attended by 34 teachers from various departments, Professor Ogodo J.M Nandi, KAFUCO Principal, expressed the commitment of his institution toward challenging lecturers to embrace this capacity building opportunity. “What matters is the improved service to learners after the skills have been gained.”
The workshop followed a baseline study of TEL at KAFUCO, which revealed the need for institutional and systemic scaling up of TEL policy, resources and infrastructure to help boost the digital readiness of its learners and academics. COL has also assisted KAFUCO to develop a TEL policy.
Dr Sanjaya Mishra, Education Specialist: eLearning, COL said: “KAFUCO is also implementing the Commonwealth Digital Education Leadership Training in Action programme for its teachers and learners. This, along with increased teachers’ capacity to create and teach through blended learning, will help learners at KAFUCO develop 21st century skills.”
