A publication entitled Smart Education Strategies for Teaching and Learning: Critical analytical framework and case studies has been released by the UNESCO Institute for Information Technologies in Education (UNESCO IITE), Moscow.
Prepared by the Commonwealth of Learning (COL) with the support of UNESCO IITE and the Smart Learning Institute of Beijing Normal University (SLIBNU), this has been part of the year-long collaborative project on “Rethinking and Redesigning National Smart Education Strategy” launched in August 2021. As part of the project, COL hosted a discussion forum, conducted a desktop study and prepared the analysis for the digital publication.
The publication comprises the following:
- Overview of the field of smart education and the use of digital technologies in teaching and learning.
- Conceptual framework and the methodology adopted for the research
- Analysis of 10 selected national and related supranational policy texts on information and communication technologies in education and smart education policy
- 15 case studies of selected policy-informed implementation projects
- A policy template and monitoring and evaluation questions.

Using the publication, COL, UNESCO IITE and SLIBNU will host a panel discussion on “National Smart Education Strategies” at the 10th Pan-Commonwealth Forum on Open Learning to be held from 14 to 16 September in Calgary, Canada.
