The ‘Inclusive Teaching and Learning’ (ITL) course developed by COL and the team from Open University’s TESSA programme is now open for registration. The four-week course starts 11 February 2021 and focuses on what it means to be an inclusive teacher. It is premised on the assumption that all teachers have a responsibility to develop and use inclusive practices, which brings benefit to all learners, including those with specific abilities or needs.

Drawing on the UNICEF Wave Model for inclusive education, it is the first of two professional development courses for inclusive education. The second course, ‘Creating an Inclusive School’, supports professionals in working together to create an inclusive ethos and culture in a school and will run from 1 April 2021.

Participants in the ITL course can study individually or with a group of colleagues. Where Internet access is a challenge, they will be able to download all the content and study offline.

COL’s Education Specialist: Teacher Education Dr Betty Ogange said, “Whereas policies on inclusive teaching have been enacted in many countries, teachers still need support, resources and training in order to practice true inclusion that transcends all learner needs in the classroom. This is the key focus of the ITL course.”
