Professor Dame Alison Peacock, Chief Executive of the Chartered College of Teaching, delivered a presentation on ‘Professionalism and Continuing Professional Development (CPD)’ to COL on 25 June 2019 and expressed interest in future collaboration.

In her opening remarks, she spoke of how professionalism equates with quality and the desire to constantly improve. She noted the importance of teachers holding status in their communities and receiving respect and said, “the way our nations succeed is through education.”

As author of several books on ‘Learning without Limits,’ Dame Alison Peacock provided an overview of the concept and its three cornerstones: establishing trust in the classroom, building agency in schools, and incorporating inclusion and the ‘ethic of everybody.’

She explained that teachers often feel they are on their own in the classroom, but that there is great potential in establishing collegiality and a culture of learning from one another.

Lord David Puttnam, famed British film producer, educator, environmentalist and member of the House of Lords, as well as COL’s Board of Governors, also offered insights during the presentation. The Chair of COL’s Board of Governors Dr Linda Sissons provided opening remarks.
