The Mauritius Institute of Training and Development (MITD) has begun implementing COL’s Commonwealth Digital Education Leadership Training in Action (C-DELTA) programme building on the Training of Trainers (ToT) workshop held in New Delhi in December 2018. This was followed by a three-day workshop for the trainers to train teachers of MITD training centres which was held from 23 to 25 April 2019 in Mauritius.

Twenty-four trainers, coordinators and centre managers from 22 MITD training centres participated in the workshop. Participants were trained in the use of the C- DELTA Platform and familiarised themselves with the modules and activities. As a ToT workshop, participants also engaged in conducting training as per the TOT guide provided by COL. All participants created a realistic action plan for C-DELTA implementation in their respective training centres.

The Director of MITD Mr P.K Joosery inaugurated the workshop and thanked COL for its support. He encouraged all participants to understand the C-DELTA programme as an important step in its successful implementation in Mauritius.

Ms Sanjana Totaram, a trainer from the MITD Knowledge Based Training Centre said, “This platform emphasises that we leave digital footprints when we create a digital identity online. C-DELTA is embedded with a vast ocean of open resources which can be used freely. Engaging in the various online activities led me to create a personal learning network (PLN). Furthermore, with the help of C-DELTA, I learnt how to surf safely and securely on the internet. I look forward to implementing a range of activities to share the digital education skills gained with my colleagues and trainees as well.”

COL’s Education Specialist, eLearning, Dr. Sanjaya Mishra said, “Digital education skills are becoming an essential component of lifelong learning strategies. With skills and knowledge to integrate technology in teaching and learning environments, we can help individual teachers and students to safely create their digital identity online, contribute knowledge in the digital world as a creator, and share their experiences in the global knowledge network to foster learning.”

COL’s C-DELTA programme is offered through a platform with interactive resources and can be used by anyone in the world. It is currently used in more than 20 countries.
