In collaboration with SchoolNet South Africa, COL has built the capacity of more than 1,200 local teachers to support their students to become digital education leaders.
Over a seven-month period, a series of workshops have been organised across nine provinces on different features of the Commonwealth Digital Education Leadership Training in Action (C-DELTA) online platform.
C-DELTA promotes sustainable development by helping learners to not only use information and communication technologies effectively but influence others to use digital technology appropriately for learning (and earning).
The platform has also helped scale up the training for digital education skills for teachers and students in the a number of other Commonwealth countries – Bangladesh, Belize, India, Kenya, Malaysia, Mauritius, Seychelles, Sri Lanka and Saint Lucia.
Earlier this year, C-DELTA received accreditation from the South African Council of Educators (SACE), which is equivalent to 35 continuous personal and professional teacher development points.
Dr Sanjaya Mishra, COL Education Specialist: eLearning, said: “With SACE accreditation, teachers in South Africa have been benefiting from C-DELTA to improve their teaching and engage with students in the digital world. COL is looking forward to supporting more countries during the current strategic plan period (2021-2027).”
