Registration for the Creating an Inclusive School (CIS) course is now open.
The four-week course is scheduled to run from 22 January – 16 February 2024.
This course is designed to enable teachers, educators and other education practitioners to apply skills, attitudes and values that support learners with diverse needs. Over the four weeks, participants will focus on the characteristics of an inclusive school and the practical activities that need to take place in order to promote an inclusive ethos.
Drawing on the UNICEF Wave Model for inclusive education, it is the second of two professional development courses for inclusive education initially developed by the Commonwealth of Learning (COL), a team of experts from The Open University’s TESSA programme and the Kenya Institute of Special Education (KISE).
This instance of the course will be facilitated by staff from KISE.
Ms Tanisha Francis-Garcia, a teacher from Trinidad and Tobago who participated in a previous offering of the course, had this to say-“ It was a very comprehensive and engaging course. The wealth of information shared is pertinent to our educational setting. It truly is a stepping stone for transforming our perspective of inclusive education and establishing the school as a learning organisation.”
Participants in the CIS course can study individually or with a group of colleagues. Where internet access is a challenge, they will be able to download the content and study offline.
