The Commonwealth of Learning (COL) in collaboration with the Uganda Management Institute (UMI) is supporting the implementation of blended learning that will benefit over 3500 students of the Institute. This was announced during a two-day visioning workshop organised by COL in collaboration with UMI, a national centre of excellence in Uganda for training, research and consultancy in the field of administration and management, to develop a Technology-Enabled Learning (TEL) policy for the Institute. The workshop, held from 6th to 7th November 2017, aimed to provide better learning experiences to the students of UMI using digital technologies, learning management systems and open educational resources.
Inaugurating the workshop, Dr S. Kasozi Mulidwa, UMI Director: Programmes and Student Affairs, said: “COL’s support is timely and would help our faculty to gain new technology-enabled pedagogical practices to teach our students”.
The workshop was facilitated by Dr Sanjaya Mishra, COL Education Specialist: eLearning who said: “The UMI has sufficient technological capacities to adopt a robust TEL policy and improve the quality of teaching and learning. COL’s support will help UMI to integrate technology in all its courses, thereby assisting learners to improve their learning achievements at UMI”.
The UMI intends to strengthen its technology infrastructure and build the capacities of the facilitators at the Institute to offer blended learning courses for the benefit of the learners.
