COL President and CEO, Professor Asha Kanwar, paid tribute to Prince Philip, Duke of Edinburgh:

We in the Commonwealth are deeply saddened by the passing of His Royal Highness Prince Philip, the Duke of Edinburgh. On behalf of the Commonwealth of Learning, I would like to extend our deepest condolences to Her Majesty Queen Elizabeth II, the entire Royal Family, and all the people of the United Kingdom. His Royal Highness had fought with the Royal Navy in the Mediterranean and the Pacific during WWII. He served as president of the World Wildlife Fund, and his International Award program allowed more than six million young adults to engage in community service, leadership development, and physical fitness activities. His sense of duty and service will continue to inspire our young generations.
