COL’s President and CEO, Professor Asha Kanwar, has been elected to the prestigious position of new Chair of the UNESCO Institute for Information Technologies in Education (IITE) Governing Board (GB).
“It is an honour to be elected Chair of the UNESCO IITE Governing Board and an opportunity to contribute to its objective of ‘facilitating inclusive and equitable digital transformation of education for SDG4’,” she said.
Professor Kanwar opened the Session by welcoming the new GB Members, the representative of the Director-General of UNESCO for Education, representatives of the Russian Government – the Commission of the Russian Federation for UNESCO and the Ministry of Science and Higher Education of the Russian Federation, along with other Board Members and IITE team.
COL’s President also commented on the importance of further implementation of IITE’s ‘Medium Term Strategy’ for 2022-2025 and a commitment of GB Members to provide oversight, as well as a strategic direction and to open and explore new opportunities for fundraising and increased visibility.
IITE GB Chair and Members are appointed by UNESCO’s Director-General based on gender balance and geographical distribution, for their distinction in their field of expertise and sit in a personal capacity.
