Professor Asha Kanwar, COL President & CEO, met with Dr. The Right Honourable Keith Mitchell, Prime Minister of Grenada on 24 May in St. George’s, Grenada.
Prime Minister Mitchell was briefed on the various activities COL has undertaken with the Ministry of Education and Human Resource Development, as well as other institutions in the country. As CARICOM Lead Head of Government for Science and Technology (including ICTs), he expressed a keen interest in COL’s innovations in technology and emphasised the importance of technology in expanding access to education.
In recalling the highlights of the meeting, Professor Kanwar said, “Prime Minister Mitchell kindly offered his full support to COL and spoke highly of its work in Grenada to date. He was particularly pleased to know that 69 Grenadian teachers had voluntarily participated in a MOOC on technology-enabled learning, which was jointly offered by COL and Athabasca University.”
COL’s Focal Pont in Grenada, Mr Andrew Augustine, was also present for the meeting. He noted that it offered the perfect opportunity for COL to reaffirm its continued partnership with the government in developing education in the tri-island state.
COL’s work in Grenada focuses on higher education, technical and vocational education and training (TVET), teacher education and open educational resources (OER).
