COL, in collaboration with the Ministry of Education, Sri Lanka, conducted a four-day stakeholder forum on school-based professional teacher development from May 31 – June 3, 2018 in Colombo.

“The main objective of the forum was to bring together stakeholders to review the current initiatives in teacher development in Sri Lanka and contribute to the strategy for COL’s support towards school-based professional teacher development,” said Dr Betty Ogange, COL Adviser: Teacher Education.

During the opening ceremony, Dr Madura M. Wehella, Additional Secretary of the Policy, Planning and Performance Review Division in the Ministry, said that the forum marked an important juncture in teacher education in the country as it provided a platform for continued dialogue on professional teacher development for improved learning outcomes.

30 participants from the Ministry of Education, National Institute of Education, National Colleges of Education and the World Bank participated in the forum. Stakeholders from teacher training colleges, teacher centres, the provincial departments of education, zonal education offices, as well as secondary schools also took part.
